Tales from the qual face

So, so tired …

CPCAB Towers was unnaturally subdued at the beginning of the week.  One of the team got back from two weeks in China the day before; coincidentally, another came back from two weeks in the States the same day.  A third had just come back from a visit to her mother in this country, so no excuse for jetlag, but she had sat up the entire night waiting to get poor mum admitted to hospital.  All three had the same pale, confused expressions and were only able to converse in words of a single syllable.

Another of the team has just lost her enormous old dog and had recovered enough to talk about it. “I’d only just bought him a new basket too”, she said, wistfully. “A huge great wicker thing with new cushions … cost a fortune but it looks so warm and snuggly.”

Three bleary sets of eyes gazed at the empty space in the middle of the office.  Just about big enough for a giant-sized wicker basket. As a man, they chorused … “BRING IT IN!!!”

Note to self; bring in a bag of Bonios for the biscuit tin tomorrow.

Great excitement at the CPCAB offices this morning. I could hear the rumpus even before I switched off my engine.  It was one of those mornings where the cloud cover somehow turns the great outdoors into a sort of invisible cathedral and the noise was echoing round.  It seemed to come from the back garden [...]
