Level 2 Award in Listening Support Skills

Introductory Summary

Qualification title: Level 2 Award in Listening Support Skills (LSK-L2).
QCA Accreditation Number: LSK-L2 is accredited into the National Qualifications Framework by the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA). The QCA's Qualification Accreditation Number for LSK-L2 is 500/1456/0.

The QCA Accreditation Number also appears in the Learning & Skills Council's on-line Learning Aims Database (which can be used to ascertain funding eligibility), except there it is called the “Learning Aim Number”.

Target candidates: This qualification is intended for candidates who wish to use listening support skills in any of the following:
  • Peer Support work;
  • as an important element of work as a helping professional;
  • to improve work relations by supporting colleagues at work;
  • to work with helping relationships;
  • to support service users
  • to support the roles of para-professionals and volunteers drawn from th
  • local community
  • to enhance community relations.

Course length: 20 Guided Learning Hours .
Minimum age: 14 years.
Entry requirements: No previous training or experience is required.
Progression: Not applicable as LSK-L2 is a stand-alone course, but progression is available to CPCAB’s Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to Counselling Skills (ICSK-L2) for those aged 16 or older.
Assessment: Internally assessed Candidate Portfolio and independent (CPCAB) verification of that assessment.
Additional study time: 8 – 12 hours over the life of the course.
Staffing and other resources: Only one trainer-assessor is needed for the internal assessment of candidates.

CPCAB recommends that trainers should have at least a Level 2 Award in Listening Skills, or equivalent qualification (e.g. in counselling, mentoring, or coaching).

Internal moderation and verification: Centres are required to have robust internal moderation and verification processes which are independently verified by CPCAB.
CPCAB candidate registration fee: £33 per candidate.
Centre application for CPCAB approval to offer the qualification: Centre application fee: £79 (one-off fee).

Centres can design their own training programmes (*) written to CPCAB specifications.

* All Centre-designed courses must be submitted to CPCAB for approval before candidates can be registered. Although the delivery of courses may differ from Centre to Centre, all delivery must enable the candidates to achieve the learning outcomes specified in the units.
