What is COSCA?
COSCA — Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland — is Scotland’s professional body for counselling and psychotherapy. It seeks to advance and support counselling, psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills, while promoting high-quality supervision and continuing professional development for individuals and organisations delivering counselling services and education in Scotland. COSCA’s Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.

How CPCAB Qualifications Relate to COSCA Membership

Membership Eligibility
CPCAB qualifications support graduates’ applications for COSCA membership as follows:
- The CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4) meets COSCA’s requirements for Counsellor Member (Organisations).
- The CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (PC-L5) meets COSCA’s requirements for Counsellor Member.
- After gaining two years of post-qualifying practice experience, graduates may be eligible to apply for Practitioner Member status with COSCA.
Membership applications are considered by COSCA against its current membership criteria. Learners should therefore see its website under ‘join COSCA’. www.cosca.org.uk. Graduates of other post-qualifying regulated and Tailor Made qualifications may also be able to use these for progression within COSCA’s membership and should apply directly.
Open University Pathway
The CPCAB TC-L4, PC-L5, CBT-L5, and CYP-L5 can be used as module exemptions for the Open University Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling (W09) recognised in Scotland and accepted by COSCA as entry for the Counsellor Member category.
