FAQ - Frequently asked questions
A candidate's course has ended but they haven’t finished their portfolio work. Can the centre apply for an extension and when should they do this?
If a candidate has not completed all the components of their Internal Assessment by the course end date, centres will make explicit, appropriate arrangements with the candidate to complete the qualification within a clear time frame. The centre is required to record a ‘deferred’ result for the candidate on the CPCAB portal, but don't need to formally request an extension.
It is expected that candidates across all qualifications should complete their portfolio work within three months beyond the end of the course, however, we understand there may be circumstances where this is not possible. Where this relates to Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, a CR11 Extension Request for Candidates form must be submitted by the centre before the end of the extended period.
For those qualifications where placement hours need to be accrued (i.e. TC-L4, LC-L4, PC-L5, CBT-L5, CYP-L5 or TCSU-L6) candidates are permitted to have up to ONE year after the end of their course to complete their placement hours and complete any associated internal assessment work relating to their placement hours. Again, the centre is required to record a ‘deferred’ result for the candidate on the CPCAB portal, but don't need to formally request an extension.
Should candidates require further time to complete their placement hours beyond the permitted one year extension, the centre will need to send CPCAB a CR11 Extension Request for Candidates for approval.
Further guidance on the above can be found at the top of the CR11 form.
